​Or Just Look Like One

So what does this entail?  

​What are you asking me to do?

I am looking for models to create different types of photos.  Usually I have some sort of project, or concept in mind.

But what you'll actually be doing is taking part in a photo shoot that typically lasts for 2-3 hours.  The locations can vary, but I like to shoot in Sacramento, Yolo County, local rivers (mountains) and occasionally San Francisco.  Most shoots are in completely public places.  We can drive together, or meet on location.

I do not use hair and makeup artists.  Typically there are only two people involved in the shoot (me (the photographer), and the model).  If you want to bring a friend, that is totally fine.

Usually the model provides the wardrobe- I ask for 2-3 different looks so we can change things up.

What does the model get out of this?

First- you'll get about 3 hours of fun.  A fairly experienced photographer will lead you through different scenarios, poses, etc.  None of this is formal at all, but it should be fun.

Experienced models will appreciate that the shoots are 100% relaxed.  There is absolutely no stress on these shoots- I want to have fun, and I want you to have fun also.  There is TONS of positive feedback, because I totally appreciate you helping me out.  The models I work with all say, "Wow, that was fun...I wish all my shoots were like this!"

New models will also appreciate the no-stress style of the shoots.  Also, I try to work with people to pose them in ways that look comfortable.  If this is your first shoot, we hope for the best and things usually turn out great.  As long as you are comfortable getting your photo taken, I'm thrilled!

If you can relax, this is great.  Or if you WANT to relax, this is a good way. 

That's great, but what do I really get?

I give the model anywhere from 5-25 full-sized edited photos.  I do not add watermarks.  You are free to use the photos any way you would like.

I am really interested in working with people who want to do this for the fun, for the experience and because they are interested in this type of project.  

Many shoots have a specific purpose.  Sometimes I'm doing a poster, or a framed photo, or something like that.  You'll receive a copy of what I'm doing.

What kind of models do you need?

I want interesting people.  Attractive people are good, but this is not a beauty contest.  Sex appeal is good, because people like look at those pictures, but that is usually not my focus.  

Absolutely all races/looks are welcome!  Male, or female.  Ages are open.

What if I have my own ideas- or I need pictures for my own use?

That's totally cool, I'd love to work with you.  For any type of photos for your use, I do provide photography as a service.  I take the same care and interest as I do for my own photos, but they will present the subject in the way that you see fit.  If you are interested in particular photos, please see my photography services page.

Current Project - What I want to do - Baking Cookies

I'm working on a series I am calling 'Domestic Goddess'.  In this series, I want to photograph people doing household chores, but looking really good while doing it.  I'm thinking about things like baking cookies, washing dishes, vacuuming.    Yes, just doing chores.

Are you familiar with Nigella Lawson, or have you ever seen Rachel Ray in her FHM shoot?  I'm thinking something like that.  So...imagine this is you, baking cookies- dressed like you are making cookies at midnight.   

Update: This project has started!  Take a look at the images below for some samples of my first shoots.  I really want to expand this project to include outdoor gardening, succulents..other things such as painting, cleaning, etc.  But- these samples will give you and idea of what I'm doing.

Previous Project - Landscape

For this project, I wanted to capture the feeling of Yolo County in fall. Golden grass, the sun setting on summer.  Images the help slow us down and remind us that the world truly is a beautiful place.  Photos taken in the Capay Valley.

Previous Project - a Poster

My previous project was, "Let's create a poster".  So we went out to the river and did a shoot.  (Honestly, we did two shoots...because it was fun.)  Then I printed up some full-sized posters.  Like the kind you hang on a wall...or garage, or whatever.

Here are two samples from that shoot.  And yes, I printed posters...and yes, the model has them too.

If you are interested in what I am doing, I really want you to see more samples.  My goal is not always to have people look beautiful!  Sometimes it's even better to wear a fencing mask for a portrait...

Hopefully you understand what I'm doing here.  I want to take photographs of interesting people.  I like to have ideas or concepts on what the purpose of the shoot is then just go forward.
